Perturtbated fields
What should contemporary art look like in the time of post-conceptualism? Intuitively, the answer would prefer the digital form of art, a hybrid art between man and machine developed new media. The implementation would be clearly conceptual. The field of sculpture / plastic is a pre-stressed field, as a strong connection to the art-historical past is quickly established through the language of form. Figurative art is classic, abstract / conceptual is contemporary? Is there a way to combine the two elements in post-conceptual thinking? In my work I connect the two positions and construct figurative sculptures based on a conceptual idea. The cosmic interweaving is my specification for a programmatically chaotic idea of art. After feeling how infinite the space of the possible in sculpture is, I definitely don't want to be restricted by a single ideology. Due to my connection to the tradition of my origin, the objects allow a view of a cultic worldview, but the tradition is broken in the futuristic-looking, abstract sculptures, which are in absolute contrast to traditional approach. This approach becomes clear in the example of the 3-D printed models in the installation “Reproduction, no thanks!” Which depict a female body, but at the same time stick to the wall resembling spider-like, cosmological stars. In my works, sacred symbols are repurposed and reinterpreted. In this way, I am not reproducing a social norm, but rather looking for a new form of representing changed ideals. The sculpture “Tied to a tradition”, for example, plays with the shape of an abstract Madonna, in whose garment the shape of a vulva has been incorporated. The abstraction makes possible an ambiguity, which I consciously acquire in order to trigger chains of associations.
The cultic-archaic aspect combined with a futuristic design language can also be recognized in the sculpture "Back to business". This sculpture is the hub to bring together the other sculptures in my artistic position to form a holistic concept. Historically, the field of sculpture has been a male-dominated field and the representation of women in art history has always been an image pleasing to the male gaze. The social change shows more and more the self-determination of women and it is important to me to build on this with my practice. Thus the sculpture is the representation of a female avatar, a digitized form of the feminine, a three-dimensional manifesto. So if our contemporaries deal with the desubjectivation, with the creation of an avatar, then this will hopefully also lead to the fact that we leave our anthropocentric view of the world to a certain extent towards a cosmological vision. As our system is collapsing, I want to point out a path of shared intimacy based on a new society of collective loneliness. The melting of ideals into permanent change is, in my opinion, the best image for art in general.
